Advantages & Disadvantages of Metatag

In this post we will be discussing about some advantages and disadvantages of Meta Tags in the HTML document header.

 Advantages

  • Some lesser-known search engines are said to still use meta tags and including a proper meta description tag on each page may provide an SEO advantage to those pages in search engines (Peach,2008).
  • Well written description tags which appears on SERP attracts more organic traffic (Peach,2008).
  • Meta tags are more effective on google search engines (Kavanagh, 2021).
  • Title tags plays vital role to attract the visitors towards the web page (Kavanagh, 2021). 

Disadvantages

  • Meta tags are not effective to optimise the search results when the web page have massive contents (Peach,2008). 
  • Maintaining and editing the meta tags consumes time for other more crucial tasks  (Peach,2008).
  • Meta tags are the gold mines of keywords for competitors (Peach,2008).
  •  Duplicate meta tags can confuse search engines to index it on SERP (Meta Description Common Problems and Best… | Workshop Digital, 2020). 

Ways to overcome

  • Creating unique description tags for each page (Google Developers, 2023).
  • Include relevant content information in the description (Google Developers, 2023).
  • Use quality descriptions on tags (Google Developers, 2023).
  • Use grammatically correct sentences and punctuations (Peach,2008).
